The Arles Photography Festival

Every year from July to October

Founded in 1970 by photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Michel Tournier, and historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette, the Rencontres de la Photographie has become the world’s largest festival dedicated to photography.

Each year, Arles transforms into a global capital of the image: exhibitions, art trails, and installations take over chapels, historic monuments, and repurposed buildings. The program, mixing major figures and emerging talents, offers a constant dialogue between tradition and innovation.

Throughout the festival, the city vibrates with visual creativity, providing visitors with an inspiring cultural experience to fully enjoy during a stay at the hotel.

The Férias: A Historic Tradition

Every year in early April and September

The Feria of Arles is a highlight of the city, with its iconic Easter and early autumn editions. The event celebrates Camargue and bullfighting traditions in a warm and festive atmosphere.

For several days, the city center comes alive with the sounds of bandas and bodegas, while the Arena hosts shows and bullfights. Streets and squares turn into vibrant meeting places.

Staying at Hôtel Amphithéâtre during the Feria allows guests to experience the excitement while enjoying a peaceful and comfortable retreat in the heart of Arles.

Local flavours and provençal lifestyle

Arles is as much about tasting as it is about discovering. The local gastronomy showcases Provençal art de vivre with olive oil, Camargue rice, cheeses, charcuterie, and regional wines.

Colorful markets, authentic restaurants, and nearby wineries offer many opportunities to enjoy local specialties in a sincere and convivial setting. This culinary richness reflects a way of life based on sharing, simplicity, and generosity.

Arles and its treasures

An ideal 2–3 day cultural stay

Arles is best explored on foot, wandering through streets bathed in light and history. Begin with the famous Arena, then visit the Ancient Theatre and the Forum. Stroll through the UNESCO-listed historic center and soak in the unique atmosphere from a terrace.

Discover the Fondation Van Gogh, museums, and exhibitions that make Arles an internationally renowned cultural hub. Finish with a walk along the Rhône, where the light is incomparable.

Just minutes from the city, the Camargue reveals its marshes, pink flamingos, and horses. A nature and local tradition excursion completes a perfect cultural getaway.

Authentic charm and peaceful stays

Visiting Arles off-season offers a more intimate, authentic experience, away from summer crowds. The city then reveals its poetry, historical heritage, unique light, and Provençal art of living in a peaceful, privileged atmosphere.

In autumn, winter, or early spring, wandering the historic streets becomes a true pleasure, while monuments — the Arena, Ancient Theatre, cloisters, and churches — can be visited without waiting.
Museums and galleries offer rich programming all year, and local markets showcase Arles’ flavors.
The surrounding nature, especially the Camargue, can be discovered in a new light: wild landscapes, birdwatching, walking or cycling in complete tranquility.
